The Epistle to the Hebrews deals primarily with the Levitical order: the priesthood, sacrifice, and the tabernacle. The Jewish people tended to forsake Jesus Christ and hold to the OT ordinances. The Epistle to the Hebrews makes it clear that in depending on these ordinances for salvation they were placing their trust in something imperfect, and incomplete. This Levitical priests themselves needed to sacrifice for their own sins before they could pray for the sins of the Jewish people, and the blood of bulls and goats God did not desire. Jesus came to be the perfect sacrifice and His sacrifice did not need to be repeated, which leads us to one of the most difficult teachings of Hebrews. Hebrews 6:6 says, “If they (the enlightened ones), shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame.”
